Lieff Auberge Road Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 2005

ITEM # LIEFFCS05

Varietal: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Viticulture & Vinification Notes: Rocky volcanic soils compose the 3 blocks set on the steep eastern slopes. Each block differs slightly in geological elements, the lower, planted in 1999, runs across from Auberge De Soleil, while the two upper blocks, planted in 2001, are on Auberge Road. Grapes underwent warm fermentation followed by 15-day extended maceration before pressing. Barrel-aged for two years in new and 1 year old Chateau Ferre french oak. 292 cs production.

Notes From The Winemaker: The 2005 Lieff Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon is a dark yet complex and elegant wine from the Auberge Road Vineyards in Rutherford Napa Valley. It has the richness and complexity that is the hallmark of low yield hillside vines. In youth this wine has deep, full flavors of dark spices and currants. The nose is of tealeaves, elegant French oak and ripe hillside Cabernet Sauvignon. As the wine ages it will develop a round and full texture on the pallet and aromas of the soils of Rutherford. The wine will age gracefully for at least a decade.

Wine Spectator Magazine: 89 Points. Rich and balanced, with a mix of savory herb, dried currant, mineral and sage that are well-proportioned, ending with a complex finish and a touch of toasty oak.
